Genuine Love (2022)

Imagining love to be all of the beauty:
The flowers, the birds, the sun, and the moon
Yet, sometimes it entails us to follow our duty,
Speaking truth in the form of an unhappy tune
I want for you nothing but bright light and cheer
But melodious sadness cannot be unsung
For love can cause pain when given sincere
Try and find sweetness in the strings that are strung
A genuine love shares words with actions -
Still, truth infused the serpent’s deception
He slithered away once the infraction
Was known by the sinners’ new perception
Even in sad tunes, and weary voices
Love conquers all, and lifts you up high
Unlike destruction brought by their choices
Based on the rocky foundation of lies
Love can illuminate, bring joy to life
With sweet scents of roses, songs of the birds
Truth can bring healing, ousting out strife
For God’s loving actions back up His words

Perplexities Concerning Teens Abound

Perplexities concerning teens abound,
lugubrious souls with unprovoked frowns.
Downcast eyes beside a woebegone walk
around the house, they barely talk.
Why so averse to making sound?
Like overturned ground enveloped in brown,
their ghastly garb overshadows the town.
Like a cat fostering a grudge, they sulk.
Perplexities concerning teens abound.
Fun family affairs become unwound,
precipitating problems to compound.
Though lasting visions of frolic
stay, of youth prolix poppycock,
before they donned the forlorn crowns.
Perplexities concerning teens abound.

This Moment (2022)

The mystery of the morrow
Will sometimes make us scared.
But the here and now is where we live;
All we need to be prepared,
Is faith in You, complete surrender,
Knowing You are love.
Giving from a heart tender,
From the Trinity above:
The Father sent His only Son;
The Spirit directs our faith.
The Son, He died for everyone;
This truth aids us to face,
Every tomorrow that we meet.
Our mission on this earth
Is designed to be complete;
We accepted upon rebirth.
Release us of our sinful pride;
Help us submit to Your will.
So within our lives, you abide;
And the future worries still.
We can remain in calming peace;
You work all things for good.
Our pain and troubles are released;
We live this moment as we should.

Commissioned

Coldness to warmth, encircled by arms from
the Spirit He’s sent to the earth.
Not grasping how frozen my heart had become;
impossible, I thought, once re-birth
Surrounded by others who gather for Him
to give Him the praise He deserves.
The strength of the Spirit, apparent within,
the church walls of those who serve.
Worship with love, hymns resound;
Sporadic with rhythm and timbre.
Beauty emerges, no matter the sound,
the Lord hears the hearts of the tender.
After He fills the spirits within
the walls of the building that’s jammed;
He commands they depart and win
Him the hearts of the fractured amongst the land.
Obediently they venture to deliver the lives
of the troubled, the lost, and the weary.
They persist for Him, and never deprive
the glory He merits, so clearly,
So, Spirit I find, in the midst of the crowd,
needing the warmth of His flame.
To keep my heart thawed and ardent for Him:
for His glory, His praise - not my fame.

Purpose

Purpose

Pieces strewn upon the floor,
difficult to fit
together til a picture forms -
how I imagined it.
The edges smooth - one side or two,
cinch to put in place;
remaining pieces jumbled -
the pressure of the race.
Rush to success - kickoff that life
society can see.
The voice of God, I then hear -
"You're what you're meant to be."
A puzzle that may have some gaps
Even when it’s done.
If I could only learn to turn
away - from ego, run.
Money, fame, power, pride
go lower on my list.
Voices all around me, though,
say they must insist.
Reply to them, with courage -
scattered pieces, just a toy.
No glee inside this game is found;
the Lord’s purpose brings true joy!

New Life

New Life

When the thoughts start to swirl, and I feel all alone
I turn to the heavens that one day I'll call home
When the noise is too much, and I cover my ears
I whisper His name knowing my prayers He will hear

When the sun seems burnt out, and the clouds fill the sky
I try trusting His will without asking why
When the songs of the birds cease without reason
I look to the Lord knowing He'll provide a new season

Through all the hardships, through all the pain
The sun will soon shine; He'll do away with the rain
The songs of the birds will soon fill the earth
The faith of the weary will be given new birth
The Father will not desert His daughters and sons
Jesus has risen, new life has begun

When the Enemy whispers thoughts of lost hope
I call out to Jesus for stamina to cope
When the world around, little sense makes
I recall devotion to the Lord, change takes

When the rain becomes heavy, and streets start to flood
I  imagine the flower that will bloom from the bud
When the thunder frightens the birds all away
I remember chirps I'd hearkened just the other day

Through all the hardships, through all the pain
The sun will soon shine, He'll do away with the rain
The songs of the birds will soon fill the earth
The faith of the weary will be given new birth
The Father will not desert His daughters and sons
Jesus has risen, new life has begun
